About Todd Akin
Todd has been a strong, independent voice representing Missouri’s 2nd District in the U.S. House of Representatives, sometimes even voting in opposition to his own party when it has strayed from its principles.
Todd, with business experience from his work with IBM and later Laclede Steel Co., brings a real world perspective with which to tackle the economic issues before his committee.
A strong voice on national security issues, Todd serves as Chairman of the Armed Services Subcommittee on Seapower and Projection Forces. As an equally strong voice on economic security matters, Todd serves on the Budget committee, where he has fought to rein in government spending and debt, despite pressures from the White House, those across the aisle and some within his own party that just can’t keep their hands off the government credit card. Previously, Todd also served as Chairman of the Small Business Subcommittee on Regulatory Reform and Oversight, working to reduce regulations that impede the success of small businesses and job creation. Todd, with business experience from his work with IBM and later Laclede Steel Co., brings a real world perspective with which to tackle the economic issues before his committee.
Since arriving in Missouri as a small boy, Todd has grown deep roots in Missouri and returns home from Washington duties nearly every weekend to visit with constituents and remain active in the community. Todd is a long time supporter of the Boy Scouts of America, a leader in his local church, former board member of National Right to Life, and sits on the board of the Mission Gate Prison Ministry – an outreach program that seeks to end the revolving door recidivism rate among those released from prison and helps get lives back on track.
Todd resides in Wildwood with his wife Lulli, not far from the former family homestead where they raised their six children, three of whom are U.S. Naval Academy graduates proudly serving their country in the U.S. Marine Corps. Todd and Lulli are also the proud grandparents of six terrific grandchildren.
