Akin Campaign Sets the Record Straight on Earmarks
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SEPTEMBER 21, 2012
St. Louis, MO: The Akin campaign released the following statement:
Claire McCaskill has questioned Todd's position on earmarks. For the record Todd's position on earmarks has been clear and consistent and is not in conflict with Senator DeMint's ban on earmarks. Claire McCaskill, meanwhile, claims to oppose earmarks but has consistently voted for them, including the stimulus package which was the most earmarked, pork-laden bill in history. Below are just a few examples of the wasteful spending Claire McCaskill voted for in the stimulus:
-- the U.S. Forest Service Replaces The Windows in a Visitor Center That Was Closed in 2007 (Amboy, WA) for $554,763
-- the University of North Carolina (Charlotte, NC) Developed An Interactive Dance Software for $762,372
-- an analysis of exotic ants is to cost $1.9 million (San Francisco, CA)
-- Firm Gets No-Bid Environmental Cleanup Contract – for a Mess It Helped Make (Simi
Valley, CA) - $15.8 million
-- Monkey and Chimpanzee Responses to Inequity (Atlanta, GA) - $677,462
-- Museum With 44 Annual Visitors Gets Funding for Bug Storage (Raleigh, NC) -$253,123
