Akin's Proven Record Leads in Senate Debate
KTRS Debate showcases GOP Primary candidates: Akin, Steelman, Brunner absent.
SAINT LOUIS – The 2012 election year kicked off Tuesday with the first official U.S. Senate debate conducted at the Missouri Athletic Club in Town and Country. Hosted by St. Louis radio KTRS 550 AM and moderated by morning host McGraw Milhaven and St. Louis Beacon reporter Jo Mannies, this debate encompassed several hot-button issues in Missouri and across the country.
Akin established that his conservative values have been tested under fire and proven to hold strong against the wave of establishment pressure that now pervades Washington. He successfully showed his record to be one of a principle-driven individual who will stand for what is right even if that means voting against his own party. “I think it’s one thing we’re really offering, is a candidacy of somebody who has stood up to Washington and put principle over party,” Akin said in post-debate comments. He continued, “I think I was able to explain that and give examples of the fact of somebody that’s been fighting to take back America, and there’s never been a time such as today when it’s more critical that we take back America from a very vastly oversized and intrusive federal government.”
Both Akin and Steelman criticized the failed liberal policies of President Obama and incumbent Democratic Senator Claire McCaskill. The third primary candidate, John Brunner, did not take part in the debate. Although originally agreeing, his campaign released a statement only days before announcing that he would not participate.
After great amounts of positive feedback, it is clear that Akin proved again that he is the authentic conservative candidate to face Claire McCaskill in the fall. His unwavering conservative principles and his unwillingness to play political games make him the best choice for Missourians who are ready to end the reckless path of our federal government and return to sound Constitutional standards.
