National Conservative Leaders Applaud Akin’s Leadership

Reps. Paul Ryan, Pete Sessions and Jim Jordan: Akin’s Principled Leadership Needed in D.C.

WASHINGTON – Conservative Republican leaders highlight Congressman Todd Akin’s principled leadership in Washington.  Akin serves on the House Budget Committee and has earned a strong reputation as a fiscal hawk in his efforts to cut spending and rein in the federal debt.

"Todd Akin has been a great asset to the House Budget Committee. His principled approach to fiscal responsibility is exactly the kind of leadership America needs and I appreciate his hard work."  Said Rep. Paul Ryan, Chairman of the House Budget Committee.

Regardless of pressure from his own party’s leadership, including a president from his own party, Akin has stood firm on his principles when he believed his party had strayed, and yet in the process gained the respect of his party’s leadership.

"Todd Akin never backs down from a fight. He is reliable and consistent. It's that kind of principled leadership that is so desperately needed in the U.S. Senate. He has my full support." Said Rep. Pete Sessions, Chair, National Republican Congressional Committee.

Akin’s proven record of leadership stands out at time when many hail the conservative mantle for an election season, but when they arrive in Washington, the promises made in television ads are quickly forgotten, and when the tough votes come, the “election year conservatives” quickly cave on even simple issues like tort reform.

"Todd Akin is one of the conservative leaders you can count on to always do the right thing, even when under pressure from political leaders in either party.  He stands true to his principles, and he has the commonsense approach that we need in the United States Senate."  Said Rep. Jim Jordan, Chairman of the Republican Study Committee.

Tested under fire, Akin intends to bring the same determination and principled leadership to Senate as he has practiced in the Congress.

“I am honored to have worked with Reps. Ryan, Sessions, and Jordan as we fought these battles in the House,” Akin said.  “I look forward to continuing our work together, to bring principled leadership to both chambers of our nation’s capitol in order to get our economy moving again by reining in spending and debt, and to reduce the tax burden on American families and small businesses.”
